Is the Path Ahead of You Yours or Someone Else’s?

Feeling discomfort on your goals? Your current path? Your future path? Got this nagging feeling that not all is well or right with your life’s journey but not sure what or why?

Did it come from within?

Where did it come from? Was it your parents who set you on this path? Did you follow friends/family/newscasters/influencers/random Internet posts to create your current path?

Perhaps this path isn’t truly yours…?

I absolutely love the message in this post by John Kinyon. I meet many clients whose current path no longer serves them. They are experiencing negativity and feelings that this is not their purpose, their calling in life. Why is that? It’s because someone else gave it to them.

Maybe that was OK at one time. When we are children, we need guidance. Security and assurance comes from clarity and when it comes from people we trust.

But after a while, we have walked the path and now find it doesn’t feel good. Doesn’t feel right. Lacking in joy, happiness, and fulfillment. Or it did at one time and now we, and the world, have changed.

So now our path needs to change. To discover what is truly right for us, right here, right now in this moment. Not what someone told us to do. What is right for them is not necessarily right for us, even if they sound like they know what they are talking about!

If you are in need of a make over of your own path, one that is aligned to your true self and your own wishes, and not anyone else’s, try this:

Generate awareness of where your current path came from. Write it down.

Then step within. If you could imagine the perfect path for you, what would be the essential elements of that path? Leave for now the actual path. Just note some elements of it. Words. Descriptions. Phrase them in the positive, not in negating the negative. How about images? What would it look like to you? How would it feel to you? What are the positive emotions associated with the path that comes from within? And so on.

When you’re done, take a step back and observe. What did you produce? And what came up for you when you created this awareness of where you are now and where you want to be?

And now, what will you create with this, now that you’ve revealed it all to yourself?
