Where’s Your Energy for Motivation?

How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?

Do you hop out of bed, ready to take on the world?
Look forward to work?
Leap with anticipation for whatever you have planned?

Or would you rather stay in bed.
Pull the covers over your head.
No desire to do anything. With anyone.
Missing that get up and go.

There are a lot of reasons why you might not feel motivated in life.

One of those is energy. Or lack thereof.

If you are depleted overall, motivation is one of the first things to go out the window.

Depleted mentally. Emotionally. Physically. Spiritually.

In working with my clients on motivation, we can deploy all the usual tools, tricks, mindset changes, structure we have and yet it will all still fail.

Why? Because if you fundamentally don’t have energy to do anything, NOTHING will work!

We live in a uniquely toxic and stressful world now. So many things around us: people, work, relationships, community, news, social media – even what we eat and breathe – all drain us. Our recent pandemic took us down even further, not to mention recent economic issues and layoffs.

You may have thought you could do it all, but hopefully now it is clear to you that you cannot. Without energy, nothing in life is possible!

So how does one work on energy?

It will mean looking at:

The basics. Sleep. Exercise. Eating. Stress. Rest.

Then the more complex. Relationships. Devices. Environment. Work. Home. Fears and other Emotions. Thoughts. Mindset. And others.

Anything that drains you and prevents you from recharging needs to be explored.

It may need to be dealt with first, before anything else can happen.

Many clients have come to the realization that an extended time off is necessary. Or some massive change in their current lives. Something way bigger and more dramatic needs to happen, in order to stop the rate of depletion and increase the rate of restoration.

So if you’re working on motivation and nothing seems to be working, then it’s time to look at your energy. We are not endless sources of power as much as we want to be or think we are. Working on your energy can be the missing piece of your life puzzle that takes you from lethargy to moving towards all you desire.

How’s your motivation today? How do you face each day – with dread or excitement? And if you’ve been working on your motivation in all the usual ways, have you tried working on your energy yet?
