Low in energy? Hard to get going in the morning? Moving tough for you? Summoning enough energy to do anything seem difficult?
Many clients come to session claiming they just can’t get moving. Moving towards goals. Moving towards anything in life.
One particular pattern caught my attention. And it goes something like this.
Before the pandemic, they could do anything.
They would get up and go to work. Then go to exercise. Come home.
Take care of family and other things. Go to sleep. Repeat.
Then the pandemic hit. For 2.5 years we were stuck in our homes. We all moved from going into the office to working remotely.
The pandemic restrictions lifted. The world opened back up. But you stayed at home, working there.
You got used to it.
In fact, you TRAINED for it and got really GOOD at it.
To be…SLUGGISH.
Well not really.
Take a look at what your life looks like now. You roll out of bed, walk a few steps to your desk, start working. Bathroom, kitchen – everything is a few steps away. Then back to your desk to keep working.
BUT…
Now you want to change this. Go back to life before the pandemic.
And here we are now in a coaching session, talking about feeling SLUGGISH.
Is that *really* SLUGGISH?
NO!
The human body is an amazing, adaptable machine.
Your energy level has adapted brilliantly to this level of living.
You have TRAINED for this and now you do it well.
TRAINED for life in the confines of your home. Your metabolic system is uniquely adapted to walking a few steps here and there.
If marathons were 26.2 inches instead of 26.2 miles, you’d be a podium finisher.
If the above scenario resonates with you, how does the word SLUGGISH fit now, knowing that you have adapted to life brilliantly? And that you are more than capable of “training” to adapt to another way of life, the one you had before, or something that serves you even better?
And if SLUGGISH doesn’t quite fit you now, what other words might fit better? Perhaps something more energizing than energy sucking? If you knew that you were a podium finisher adapting to the marathon of pandemic life, how might you become a podium finisher again in the marathon of post-pandemic life?
